Life at home became very somber, as if a wave of darkness had come over my family. He loved baseball, much like me, and he liked watching me pitch. Baseball became my sanctuary, because it took me away from my worries, and also provided me with a close connection to my uncle. Every time I toe the rubber or set foot on the field, I can remember him teasing, laughing, and encouraging me with his cliché sayings and foolish remarks. Baseball also provides me with a similar connection with my father, the man who introduced me to the game and cultivated my love for the sport. My father and I have always had a special connection over baseball, but since my uncle's passing, baseball has meant so much more. I look into the stands and see the pain on my father's face as he sits, hoping the game will take him away from the loss of his brother. I pray that my left arm is strong enough to carry my father through this difficult time, just as he has carried me through difficult times. I feel an obligation to him to provide some relief for his pain, and through baseball I am able to do so. Baseball will always be much more than just a
