As a child, I grew up carrying a baseball glove and a pearly white baseball wherever I went, hoping for the chance of finding a partner to play catch with. The game of baseball was never just a game for me; it was a lifestyle that I had fallen in love with. With that being said, the fundamentals of baseball had no immediate effect on me as a kid. The team atmosphere is the most important part of the game, teaching me how to communicate effectively and how to be selfless. Learning to sit back in the box and wait for that perfect pitch taught me patience. Standing in there and taking a fastball off of the elbow taught me that pain is only temporary. Working through a hitting slump taught me mental toughness and that hard work will eventually pay off. Not losing my temper after the umpire calls me out on a terrible third strike taught me respect and composure. These are only some of the little things in baseball that will leave a lasting impression on my character.
