I was up to bat. The crowd’s chanting of my name was full of hope, as I was one of the Dixie Heights Colonels best hitters. I stepped up to the plate knowing I would give it my best shot.
The other team had brought in their closing pitcher to wrap up the game. Having had hits on him in previous games, there was a little voice inside me reassuring me I could potentially turn the game around.
As I stood at the plate, adrenaline was rushing through my body causing my knees and arms to tremble. By the pitcher’s stature, I could tell he was confident he was about the throw the game-ending pitch. Confirming the catcher’s sign with a nod, the pitcher wound up and strongly released the ball that came barreling towards me. It was a fastball; a fastball I could all the way in to the head of my bat. I swung for the lights and heard that perfect contact; that sound that tells you “that ball is outta here!”
