Many people wonder what goes through the mind of killers, why they committed such acts, and what persisted them to carry out such horrific crimes. Two killers in particular, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who were responsible for the Columbine massacre are constantly questioned why they would shoot up their own school with intentions to kill hundreds. People often speculate that it video games, a mafia, movies, and bullying drove Harris and Klebold to the massacre, but those were just minuscule details to the whole plot. The gears in both of their heads weren’t quite right, there was something more behind the two teenagers that influenced their actions; their absolute disgust and hatred set them over the edge.
There have been many speculations as to what Harris and Klebold were involved with; and how that may have inspired the shooting. It was said that Harris and Klebold were members of a group of social outcasts called the “Trenchcoat Mafia”, Harris’ dad even called during the shooting suspecting that Eric may be involved and he claimed that Eric was a member of the Trenchcoat Mafia (Zero Hour). This mafia consisted of outcasts that the jocks usually ridiculed, but none of the member were accomplices of Harris and Klebold (Columbine High School massacre). Some sources state that weren’t involved with the mafia at all, they were just friends with some people in the group. A popular video game, “Doom”, which Harris and Klebold spent a lot of their time on was seen as another factor in the shooting since the game was very violent (Columbine High School massacre). Harris and Klebold obsessed over Natural Born Killers, a movie that portrayed mass murderers glorified by the media (Columbine High School massacre). Harris and Klebold referred to the upcoming shooting as NBK in their journals; their planned attack wasn’t just out of hatred for jocks, a cry for the media’s attention (Zero Hour). Not any of these theories
