Compare And Contrast Columbine And Eric Harris

Eric harris states in his first basement tape “Don’t think we copied anyone. We had this idea way before anyone else. Ours is better.” On April 20th, 1990 Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold opened fire onto their high school, columbine. Twenty four people were wounded, one teacher was killed trying to protect kids in the library. Thirteen students were killed throughout the lunchroom and library. And 24 other students and teachers were wounded. Eric and Dylan both committed suicide after the mass shooting. Columbine was considered one of the first mass school shooting in the United States. There plan was to go to school with multiple types of guns they've been collecting. The two boys set up two bombs at the back of the lunchroom. These bombs ended up not working. Their end goal was to kill as many people inside of the school as possible. Though they did have certain people they wanted to kill. They travelled around shooting people from the lunch room, through the gym, and ending up in the library where Eric and Dylan shot themselves in the head. One thing to remember about eric and dylan both suffered from severe mental illnesses;
Such as bipolar disorder, depression, and severe anxiety.
At a very young age Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were given psychiatric drugs to help with said mental illnesses.
Due to recent” studies these drugs have been proven to induce extreme violence and suicidal thoughts on the people who take them. Both of the boys at some point took paxil, luvox, and zoloft. Dr. Tracy, after reviewing their medical history, states “the Columbine killers’ brains were awash in serotonin, the chemical which causes violence and aggression and triggers a sleepwalking disorder in which a person literally acts out their worst nightmare.”(shooting). Many people in the 90’s were given medicine and pills before therapy and therapeutic help for mental illness. This is a key case of that. It has been reported that Eric Harris was very suicidal taking zoloft. He also had thoughts of murdering people and attacking
people.
At school Eric and Dylan were bullied quite frequently but also did a lot of the bullying. They had a habit of hating people who didn't think the way that did, as many people do. When talking about the people the boys were gonna go after in there basement tapes klebold states “I don’t like you, Rachel and Jen, you’re stuck up little bitches, you’re fucking little . .. Christian, Godly little whores” then Harris replies with “What would Jesus do? What the fuck would I do?”(transcript 2). These boys had ideas like no other. And if they were given the proper medical attention then maybe all of this could have been avoided.
Columbine was a serious horror show. Overall there were 15 victims of this shooting. And twenty four were wounded. This could have all been avoided with the correct medical attention and proper care.
