Throughout history, we see how millions upon millions of people have been killed simply because one group of people believed in a different God, came from another country, or simply had a different color of skin. Fortunately, human beings hold the ability to overcome prejudice through education and dialogue between different ethnic or racial groups. Unfortunately though, human beings have often preferred to take the path towards ignorance and bigotry. Throughout her autobiography, "Coming of Age in Mississippi," Anne Moody discusses how she was introduced to the harsh reality of a culture where individuals were unwilling to live together in peace and equality.…

He was not a very important man, in the common sense of the word. He had never occupied a position of leadership or authority. He had never controlled a large business. He had never possessed great wealth. He was no more than a common man, a dime a dozen. Now he was lying upon a snow white bed, soft and comfortable. His hair was white and disappearing. His skin was faded, pale as parchment. His cheeks were no longer rosy with the energy of his youth. He was thin and light, no longer possessing the strength of his youth. His chest rose and fell gently, like the swell of the open sea. His eyes still held the light and joy of his younger years, but he did not have the energy to carry it out. His mind, however sharp, was dulled by the weakness…

It will probably be one of the most awkward and confusing part of most people’s life, from the dancing unit in gym class to asking a crush to the school dance. There is not anything to get out of it, but there are a few things that will make the six years not as bad and that’s by enjoying every second. The second seventh grade tration day is over gradion is a few months away, the only thing left to do is take in the time that’s left, while regretting this or that was not done. The best advice for a Prairie View kid, or any kid, going into middle and high school is to enjoy the six years by getting involved, showing spirit at what may seem like the pointless pep rallies, and most importantly is for each student to love what they do.…

Teenage years can be a challenging time for many individuals. Beginning at the age of 11 through 20, adolescence is defined as a “transitional period in the human life span, linking childhood and adulthood” (Santrock 2009). At this point, the person is no longer a child, but not yet an adult. This makes it a very critical and sensitive time frame for identity formation.…

The Japanese culture celebrates the age rites of passage from age 60-111. One celebration is the Kanreki(Tsuji, 2011) which is the celebration for turning age 60. The Kanreki is a huge celebration mainly due to the fact that in recent times many Japanese did not live to be of such an age. The Kanreki celebrates this milestone life by the recipient wearing a padded sleeveless Kimono jacket. Once the ceremony is completed the recipient will start a new cycle of life. The Kanreki is the first of many milestone birthday’s celebrated in Japanese culture. After the Kanreki (sixtieth) comes the Koki (seventieth), Kiju (seventy-seventh), Sanju (eightieth), Beiju (eighty-eight), and many more up to age 111. (Tsuji, 2011) The celebrations continue to honor the different stages of old age. Although the last few milestones are rare occasions due to life expectancy of the Japanese, they are as equally important. As Tsuji stated, “These…

As we all get older we wonder what is going to happen to us. What does our body go through and why? Do you ever wonder why things happen when you get older instead of happening in your middle age time of life to prepare you for what is coming and help you deal with things a little easier? What happens to your mind and why does it happen? Well, those are just some of the things that go through the people in the late adulthood. Some of the questions are always asked by people that are in their late adulthood. My research is important because, it will help people in the late adulthood better understand what happens as they get older and help the middle age people understand what they may go through as they get older. Everyone’s body ages differently and some just do not understand what can happen or what may happen. To help the people in the world through life a little easier and maybe even give them a chance to get the help they need before it is too late and things get worse or causes more problems with themselves or their families.…
