During my senior year, my high school guidance counselor would send out emails to my class with information on available internships, scholarships, community service, and other academic opportunities. This particular internship was for students who were interested in the engineering field. At that time in my life I was not sure what I wanted to study or be when I grew up. Although I still do not know for sure, I had considered engineering to be a likely possibility and so I took a stab it. It was strange because at that time I did not like to do more work than I had to, yet I took the extra step of getting myself an internship which I felt was a bold and adult thing to do. I was sent to a computer science related company called Amtex Systems mainly because I lied about my computer skills on the application. I am not a computer or a technology guy at all, but I was caught off guard when I was required to fill out a survey asking me about my computer skills. I was concerned that if I filled it out truthfully, I would be considered to have no more than basic knowledge on computers and that I would not be accepted. In retrospect, that part of the application was not to determine acceptance, but to question our interests in whatever engineering field we were in. And computer science was considered an engineering related field. Who knows what else I could have been doing. Perhaps something more interesting than sitting in front of a computer learning computer
