Common Core Standards Vs Career Standards
By looking at 5th grade standards I do not see any big difference between Common Core and SC College and Career Standard. Neither of them is obviously harder or easier.
I think it is better to have a common set of standards for all states. It makes it easier to see and compare how students from different states are doing. Also, it gathers the responsibility to one institution, therefore it should be less accusing of others for failures, if it is necessary. But I need to admit, that for me the idea of having different standards and rules for different parts of one country is hard to understand. Since US is one, it seems logical to me to have the same laws. But, I do not understand the culture and tradition that much 

What I would most like to see in the public discourse about the Common Core State Standards would be to separate consideration of the standards from opposition to testing and teacher evaluation. When Bruni indicts parents for coddling their children by opposing the common core he is mixing up the common core state standards with the assessments. But that’s to be expected, many others are doing this too, including those who stand up in opposition to the tests, they often sound like they’re against the CCSS…

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is the new standard for driving the creation of curriculum. “Moving from the previous state standards to the CCSS requires fundamental shifts in the way teachers teach, the way students learn and are assessed, and the way leaders lead.” (Fratz, 2013)…

The Common Core Curriculum dictates the standards that need to be achieved by students and taught by teachers. The adoption of this curriculum means all should be uniform. Teachers should be teaching the exact same content, relatively at the exact same time. I believe this article brings up a great question; is the underlying objective of the Common Core, to make teachers teach to the test? Many of us believe so. I feel this article points out other issues that have a serious impact on a student’s performance. Poverty is one of the factors mentioned in the article that has an even greater impact to a students learning than memorizing facts would (Krashen, 2014).…

The Common Core State Standards Initiative (also known simply as Common Core) is an educational initiative that details what primary and secondary students should understand at the end of each grade in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Common Core's background dates to the 1990s with the inception of what was known as the "Standards & Accountability Movement," which sought to reform the educational standards upon which students were measured in relation to college and workplace readiness. In 2009, at the behest of the National Governors Association, the Common Core State Standards Initiative was officially introduced as policy. The Obama Administration, using federal 'Race to the Top' grants as an incentive, urged the states to adopt Common Core by August 2, 2010, upon which forty-one states pledged to do so, with four explicitly opting out. In addition to the original four states that chose not to adopt Common Core, eight others have (since 2010) withdrawn, Throughout the course of this essay, I will examine both the pros and cons of the Common Core State Standards Initiative.…

On the other hand, the Common Core Standards are intended to do just that, which in my opinion do not benefit our students. The Common Core Standards were created for standardized tests that are not accurate in analyzing students’ knowledge. I believe with the Common Core Standards, teachers are only teaching what the students need to know to graduate high school. By doing this, students are not able to take the skills acquired and apply it to everyday life. A change should definitely be implemented with the Common Core Standards. The standards ought to be significantly parallel to the NCSS and Mississippi Social Studies…

One of the controversial topics of these recent years is now engulfing the education establishment. Very few people fully understand the implications of Common Core State Standards in the United States, but experts like educators, journalist, scholars, etc., who are in association with other teachers and researchers lead the way in making sense of them. Since being introduced in 2010, forty-four States have now adopted the Common Core State Standards Initiative. This initiative provides standards in English, Language Arts and Math. Every child in a public school will be expected to meet each standard for their grade level in these areas. These standards are designed to guarantee that every child in America will be on par with each other. They use the example in their 3 minute video about a child in Seattle who has an A in his English class but would be receiving a C in a public school in Chicago(Understanding Common Core). These standards are also designed to insure that American youth are graduating high school with the…

All states must meet federal regulation by establishing state academic standards and state testing system. States are responsible to set school accountability based on yearly student assessment in math and reading. The schools are responsible for reporting the student’s progress for each group of students; such as, minorities, students living in poverty, and students receiving special education service. All students are required to meet their adequate yearly progress (AYP). If a school misses their AYP two years in a row students were eligible to transfer to a better performing public school in the same…

Quality is a very subjective thing for many and education is one of the top priorities for many as well. With this in mind and the principles of federalism, quality should be determined by a number of factors. To be efficient, the US Department of Education needs to take into account these various factors when determining the quality of implementation of each state. According to Fine & Levin-Waldman (2016), Federalism is a government system where power and authority are shared by national and state governments with ultimate authority derived from the people. Therefore, there should be quality checks at the federal level, state level and with input from the people. Essentially creating a checks and balances type of system for the quality of education and the implementation of the policies outlined in the…
