Edgar Allan Poe’s Biography
Research Question: What are the common themes in Edgar Allan Poe's work? Edgar Allen Poe is a well-known author and poet; he became famous because of the themes his poems contained. Edgar Allen Poe is regarded as having made several psychologically intense literatures that contributed to his fame and also became some of his best works. Edgar Allen Poe had several themes that he used when writing, however his most popular and most common themes were on death, the subconscious self, and the human imagination. Edgar Allen Poe was surrounded by several deaths since he was a kid, which ultimately he used that experience and emotion to write several of his most popular poems. Another poem on death that Poe wrote was called “Lenore” however in this poem Poe creates a sense of hope and optimism rather than despair and gloom. In the poem “Lenore” a man has lost his wife yet he remains optimistic because he knows that one day he will see his wife in heaven. The poem contains a lot of imagery and repetition in covey the overall all message in the poem. This poem comprises a lighter and less dark tone to the poem compared to “The Raven” which allows the reader to view multiple choices and moods to the same situation while still conveying the theme of …show more content…
Poe created vivid and descriptive poems by using figurative language and imagery which help create a melancholy mood to the majority of his poems.
