This is what exactly happens when people from different cultures try to communicate but even if both languages and cultures are the same, it is easy for the same statement to mean one thing to one person and something different to someone else. Likewise listeners also fail to listen carefully sometimes and they may also assume that they know what other person is saying or will say.
The additional reason is when people are in a disagreement; they regularly focus more on what they are going to reply to their opponent’s declaration, rather than listening to their opponent’s words with full attention.
