The normal family was made up for two parents and two children. They killed babies that were not mature enough for their age, and they executed the elders to control the population. They controlled the rationing by only allowing healthy foods and giving little helpings to everyone. In The Giver the graduates jobs are chosen for them. The graduates who were not as smart got simple jobs, and the intelligent people were given more complex jobs. They hid the past from them, and only one person was chosen to receive the memories.
The Giver highlights how communism can have negative impacts through population control, control with rationing, and education. The Giver portrays communism in an entertaining way and helps to highlight the negative impacts it can cause and denounces the moral value many people have tried to give it.
