Strengthening Relationships between Police and Citizens
` A strong relationship between citizens of a community and police officials is valuable to have in order for the police to do their job effectively. Community policing can help strengthen the relationship that is broken. Community policing is a philosophy that rest on the belief that honest citizens in a community have the responsibility to participate in the police process alongside the officers. It aims to establish active and equal partnership between the police and the public. Community policing is a management style or organizational strategy that promotes proactive problem solving and police community partnership. There are two community policing concepts and those are: problem oriented policing and crime prevention. Problem oriented policing and crime prevention are two different concepts of community policing, however they associated with one another. Problem oriented policing is a style of policing which emphasizes the use of problem solving techniques as a basis for more effective police response to repetitive crime related problems. It is a method aiming at involving the community in solving crime related issues. The concept of crime prevention is that there is a pattern of attitudes and behaviors influencing actions directed at reducing the threat of crime and enhancing the sense of safety. Crime prevention offers information and skills that are essential to community policing while being cost effective. It is a central position in law enforcement that is related with solving social problems. Crime prevention and community policing share a common purpose of making the public safer and communities better. They also have great potential for inspiring each other.
