Both of these approaches focus on the community at hand. In response to protecting all of the citizens, problem oriented policing is when the community and the policy come together to not only look at the current problems but also to develop customized solutions to combat those issues. This is an effort that many can see as being for those officers that live in the area rather than those that are just patrolling for the evening. The officers that live in the community are more vested and more responsive because they know the problems and it is their home too. Community policing focuses on the community and the police presence and involvement with the residents. Problem oriented policing has the residents come together with the officers to make customized solutions to the crimes and issues they are experiencing. The residents have knowledge of what is going on in the area and are able to feel as though they are combating crime as well.
