In my community I was able to identify all sort of companies inside each industry. Starting from the growth industry I chose Yogen Fruz witch is an uprising company, that right now is expanding inside Puerto Rico opening new stores all over the metropolitan area. Yogen Fruz have their star product witch is obviously the yogurt, a no fat no sugary option for dessert, that attracts all kind of people that want to keep in shape but still enjoy sweets, specially people with diabetes and hypoglycemia. The major threats for this company can be the unpredictable economy, since their products are not of basic necessity Giving Yogen Fruz a huge competitive advantage inside the industry.
Inside the mature industry I chose The Coca Cola Company. This is a company that has been the leader in its industry since the very beginning and still stands strong among the competition. The reason for its success is their unique formula that people love so much, witch gives them a competitive advantage above the competition. But more than that The Coca Cola Company have taken advantage of all of their opportunities making their brand recognized worldwide and affiliated with the most successful food companies in the world also (for example Mc Donald’s). The reason this company have retained its competitive advantage over time is not only their unique formula, but also is their non-stop marketing campaign.
When it comes to the declining industry I chose Blockbuster, since it once was a very successful franchise, but now the market have decreased the demand for physical rentals. Blockbuster’s threat is that their products have become outdated by new products (like Netflix, Red box, iTunes, etc.) that do not require the clients to go on a physical store in order to make a video rental. Because of this new technological advances Blockbuster has lost it’s competitive advantage among the competition, bringing them to a possible bankruptcy
