While Independence Day and New Year’s Eve share some differences, their similar celebratory traditions are much more significant.
Independence Day, or more commonly known as The Fourth of July, is a national holiday marked by patriotic displays. Similar to other summer-themed events, Fourth of July celebrations often take place outdoors. Independence Day is a federal holiday, so all non-essential federal institutions are closed. Friends and families often celebrate The Fourth of July by hosting or attending a picnic or barbecue; foods such as, hot dogs, assortments of salads, and dips are many party favorites. Decorations such as, lights, streamers, balloons, and clothing are normally colored red, white, and blue. Since Independence Day falls in a summer month, the dress for this type of celebration is generally more revealing; shorts, tank tops, and sandals are appropriate attire for this occasion. Fourth of July celebrations are widely known for excessive drinking and partying. During the day at one of these parties, there will likely be many outdoor activities and sports going on; such as, corn hole, volleyball, badminton, and swimming. The celebration often comes to an end in the late hours of the night, followed by a large display of fireworks.
