“Most bad governments have grown out of too much government,” Thomas Jefferson once said. The question is, how do we know when our government is too strong? That’s a question that takes a lot of thinking about. Or, is our state government too strong? Sadly, most people have no idea what their state government is doing, trying to do, or putting to the side. Everyone is always too busy thinking or questioning about our president, and never paying attention to whether each of the governments are too strong.
First, I’m going to tell you the difference in a federal government and a state government. To start, the federal government declares war, create and maintain armed forces, establish foreign policy, and regulate interstate and foreign trade. They also make copyright patent laws, establish postal offices, and coin money, and more. Such as, they both raise taxes, provide for the public welfare, criminal justice, borrow money, charter banks, and build roads. They both do much more than those examples, but those happen to just be some simple examples. Such as, every road you drive on, was assigned by the government. Or if the state government or national government ever need money, they borrow money. Lastly, most importantly, they both raise taxes whenever something comes up that the nation is in need for.
