Compare And Contrast All Summer In A Day And The Gift Of The Magi
Authors show us what society's value. In the stories “The Gift of the Magi,” by O. Henry and “All Summer in a Day,” by Ray Bradbury, the authors use multiple literary devices to show what society's value.
In Gift of the Magi, O. Henry teaches us that societies value love. He shows us this by the use of tone. O. Henry uses different words to show us that Jim and Della (characters in the story) care a lot about each other. At first the tone is quite sad but later changes. Della’s main concern is that the money she’s saved isn’t enough to buy Jim a worthy Christmas present. For her, the main obstacle that poverty poses to her happiness is its limitation of her expression of love. After the twist ending, Jim and Della both realize that even though

One of the most obvious uses of figurative language in the story is irony. The main characters, Della and Jim, both sell something to buy a gift for the other, however the thing they sell, renders the gifts unable to have a purpose.
