Compare And Contrast Beowulf And Martin Luther King Jr

My synopsis is going to be about two heroes. One of which is a literary hero from a famous world renowned poem called, “Beowulf”. The other hero is just as popular, but this hero has fought for the equal rights of African Americans. His name is Martin Luther King Jr. Both hero’s share similar qualities and traits that a hero must have. This essay will give you fact upon fact of how both heroes’ are great men. They are not only great in a literary sense, but their achievements are considered to be historical landmarks. In the epic poem” Beowulf”, Beowulf himself is put upon a pedestal because he is the leader of a nation and a respected warrior. His personality and courageous achievements separate him from everyone else. Beowulf’s strong
body composure and confident attitude enables him to fight with monsters and win. For example, Beowulf was able to fight and defeat five great giants. This act makes Hrothgar, the king realize that Beowulf is not weak or easily hurt. Beowulf has been able to fight sea monsters and great giants without losing a battle. The fact that he defeated the evil monsters, Grendel, Grendel’s Mother, and a dragon puts him in a heroic status. Beowulf’s importance in this whole poem is that he sets out to kill Grendel. Unexpectantly he has to kill Grendel’s mother and the dragon. The fact that Beowulf requested permission from the king to kill Grendel and save innocent lives provides some evidence that he had the heart of a true hero. There are many traits that a hero must have. Beowulf fights for glory and to protect the lives of other people. This is true because Beowulf volunteers to battle with Grendel.
