Edmund Burke was a western philosopher born in Ireland who lived in the years of 1773-1792. He served as a statesman, author, philosopher, and political theorist and after moving to London in 1750 he worked as a member of parliament in the House of Commons. In his lifetime he served as a philosopher, revolutionary, and a political theorist. Paine is considered one of the founding fathers of the US; along with some great gentlemen like Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other great names. He was the author of two of the most influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution along with inspiring the rebels in 1776 to declare independence from Great Britain (Paine iii).
During the French Revolution Paine and Burke generated a major storm. The two represented antagonistic ideologies; with Thomas Paine with radical liberalism and Edmund Burke with conservatism. Thomas Paine’s main idea was to foreseeing the state; while Edmund Burke’s was the dangers of trying to shape society. The two gentleman started off as friends due to the part Burke took in the American Revolution (Paine, 5). But once Edmund Burke’s Pamphlet became known of Paine took action. Paine thought Burke’s Pamphlet contained flagrant misrepresentations of the French Revolution, principles of Liberty, and its imposition on the rest of the world. (Paine, 5) In which ignited the fire under the
