Compare And Contrast Disney And Destino
Worldwide, films, books, paintings, statues and lyrics all represent a form of art in which people can relate to. Each piece of art expresses its own message in its own unique ways. In the short film Destino by Salvador Dali and Walt Disney, one theme that is expressed is becoming a new self. The new self-theme is also shown in the novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Each work of art has a storyline of growth from old to new and vulnerable to strong. Even though both stories show change from an old beginning to a new beginning, is change a good thing?
Stories start with a beginning. Many activities or hobbies that are new to people start off as a struggle, simply because they aren’t used to it. In Destino, the woman is climbing and running

Throughout Destino, the woman begins to flourish into a new person. A dandelion forms around the woman’s head and then pieces of it begin to break off. The pieces of the flower represent her passion for helping others; they go off and provide assistance and nurture. The woman didn’t start off with the flower, but as time went on, she began to realize what is the right and wrong thing to do. The woman noticed that doing the right thing will lead her to a bigger and better life, so the woman decided to provide care and kindness to people around her. Similar to the woman, Katniss in the Hunger Games reflects her caring nature as well. During the games, Katniss's opponents “fend” for themselves, except for Katniss. Instead of killing the ones that walk through her path, she finds a young girl named Rue who reminds her of her sister. Katniss befriends Rue and protects her like she is her sister. Sadly, Rue gets killed. Katniss then puts her own life in danger by making Rue a grave. The grave is made out of hundreds of hand-picked flowers that she puts around Rue’s body. The flowers represent Katniss’s empathy for others and her ability to handle tough situations. At the beginning of “The Games,” Katniss did not know what to do. As time passed throughout “The Games,” she changed her mindset from hiding to taking care of her friend. Katniss’s change in mindset made her become a more caring girl, and Rue’s death caused Katniss to …show more content…

The woman in Destino continues her journey of growth throughout the entire film. Near the end of the film, when her voyage comes to a halt, she transforms into a bell. The bell represents her strength and courage. When she becomes the bell, it shows her becoming a new, improved individual. The woman didn’t choose to go on this journey, but her journey changed her by providing her with her strength and courage to continue on. In The Hunger Games, once Katniss, along with her fellow partner from her district, defeat all of their opponents, she is crowned the victor. The crown she is given represents her strength and the obstacles she had to overcome to get to that point. Katniss obviously didn’t want to be in “The Games”, but she didn’t have a choice. She was almost forced into it, but her journey through “The Games” reflect how she transformed into a new person and gained strength and courage. Both characters started off isolated from the world and their true being until they were forced into interactions that made them the strong, confident self they grew to

In the Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins, one of the main characters, Katniss Everdeen, had a problem with fearing for her survival. This made it hard for her to retrieve her food, water, and wound healing supplies given to her by sponsors. In the beginning Katniss had no confidence what so ever about coming out as champion or even surviving the games, but as the storyline continued more toward the end of book she seemed to become more comfortable with the idea that she could potentially die. This might be due to the fact that she had to push to stay alive for the sake of her 12 year old younger sister, but then realized that her sister would be proud of her no matter what. An outcome of participating in the games, Katniss developed a…

Surviving the Hunger Games was difficult enough, but playing the game at a such challenging arena made that task that much harder. Being at that the Capitol, also meant that she alone could not provide for her family anymore. She would have to count on friends in District 12 to help her family out. “Gale will get her the herbs she doesn’t grow herself,...He’ll also bring them game-he and I made a pact about this a year or so ago…”(35). Being the head of the household, and then being ripped away for the family had a devastating effect on Katniss’s family. Being at the capital also meant that that she was always under surveillance, and everything she did was being watched. Every part was her life was under the control of the capitol, and there wasn’t a way that Katniss could fight back. Being a Hunger Games tribute at the Capitol, meant that she had the do countless interviews and win over as many fans that she could. Pretending to be somebody that she isn’t is one obstacle that she will have a hard time…

Katniss sometimes treats other characters too harshly, and comes off as an arrogant adolescent in certain scenes, so readers have to put in a great deal of effort when forming their opinions of her. If her father did not die, Katniss would be a boy-crazed adolescent girl, focusing on the perfect application of rouge and lip-gloss, rather than how she would obtain her family’s next meal. This type of behavior, typically seen in teenage young ladies, would have been a huge disservice to Katniss in the arena because she would have never been forced into hunting prey, shooting a bow, or stealthily climbing trees in the first place, since her father would be alive to complete such tasks. Mr. Everdeen’s death is completely necessary and critical to the novel’s plot because his passing molds Katniss into a young woman who fights through any obstacle in her path in order to survive and protect the people she cares about. If Collins did not purposefully and artfully invent his death, Katniss would have developed into a strikingly different character that lacks the label of a spirited…

She is characterzed by being a caring person who encourage ones around her to keep going no matter what. Im always there for people who ask for my help, and im also a caring person. The motivation that Katniss showed through her actions is away that I am when helping others, or in a bad situation. Not once in the movie did I see her give up on anything, even if she had gotten hurt really bad. She stuck to what she had to do or either what she was going to do in order to get things back to how they were. Even when it came to helping another team player, she didn’t see it as a threat which showed how caring she…

For Katniss, survival has become more than just hiding out and avoiding the Careers; she recognizes that truly to survive, she must play the Game to win. Now in the Catching Fire book, “A mockingjay is a creature the Capitol never intended to exist. They had not counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wild, to pass on its genetic code, to thrive in a new form. They had not anticipated its will to live.” (Katniss 92) Katniss is talking about the mockingjay, the iconic symbol of the rebellion, but she may as well be talking about herself. The spirit of resistance and rebellion is alive in Katniss, though she doesn’t yet realize it. She survived her first Hunger Games despite being from the poorest District with, historically, the least-prepared tributes. Like the mockingjay, no one expected her to survive, but she was able to adapt to survival. The tributes themselves are symbols of a war fought 75 years ago, and their deaths serve as a reminder of the power the Capitol wields. However, the Capitol underestimated Katniss’s own will to live, as well as her defiance. Katniss is more than a symbol she is a human being. She has grown up under the Capitol’s rules, and now they are forced to contend with…

“If you can dream it, you can do it.” This is a direct quotation from a man whose life’s work has carried on showing this is true. Walt Disney is an international icon who is widely known for his creation of the theme parks Disneyland and Disneyworld. While he proposed for many of the same concepts and themes to be embedded into both parks, there are just as many differences as there are similarities. Both were built with the intention to ignite the dream in all of us, but differ when it comes to things like history, location, and attractions.…

Saranell tries time after time to grow and be apart of her mother's life but all that her mother does is turn her head. "Maybe Renny's right. Maybe Mama will like some flowers," she murmured as she stooped for the yellow blooms. "But I'd like them better if they were pokeweed we could eat."She tucked the stems into the mouth of the pitcher, and when she couldn't crowd any more in, she took it back inside.Geneva didn't acknowledge the bouquet, however, and she ate the third of tasteless pancake without a comment"(Carr 116). Regardless of how thoughtful Saranell may be towards her mother, all she receives in return is a cold shoulder. Geneva, upon being gifted with the flowers, should be overcome with joy and delight instead of scoffing and looking the other way. In the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins the reader is able to see similarities between Saranell being emotionally abandoned and Primrosee Everdeen being physically abandoned by her sister and mentally abandoned by her mother. As Katniss waits to board the train to the Capitol, she tells her mom to stay strong, if not for herself then for Prim. "You can't clock out and leave prim on her own. There's no me now to keep both of you alive"(Collins 35). Prim solely relies on Katniss for support because of her mother being absent minded after her husband's death. Now that Katniss has been selected to participate in the Games, Prim is left to fend for herself because her mother doesn't take care of her. Even though Katniss has the possibility to become the victor in the Games, it is almost better for her to just die instead of abandon Prim who clings to the possibility of seeing her sister again. Children look towards their parents for guidance and comfort, if their parent is not emotionally their for them they become lost and feel…

Towards the middle of Lord of the Flies, the young group of boys split into two different groups. Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and SamnEric were allies throughout the story until Simon passed away and SamnEric were kidnapped. That left Ralph and piggy to fend for themselves while Jack, Roger, the hunters, and a few little ones began taking over the island. Jack Stole SamnEric, torturing them to find information about Ralph and Piggy. This created a very different feeling than The Hunger Games. While Katniss was camping in the trees, waiting for people to pass by she spotted a young girl, Rue, who reminds her very much of her sister. They became partners after Katniss was stung by a Tracker Jacker and fell from the tree. Rue covered her in leaves and created a remedy to help Katniss heal. They were planning to kill Cato and his group but was unable to proceed because Rue was shot by one of the tributes in his group. Katniss killed him using the bow and arrow she collected and sung to Rue as she died. This shows a bond between them that was very strong in a big sister, little sister way. This is the first time people see Katniss cry and show remorse for the killings. She then tries to find Peeta and stumbled across his camouflaged body. He is hurt so she helps him to a nearby cave that was high enough to not be noticed. They…

Disney and Pixar are known for their animated movies that come out annually that steal the hearts of kids and adults everywhere. One of the movies that they’ve created that I personally love is Cars. I grew up in a house, where NASCAR is watched just as much, if not more than the daily news. Cars not only peeked my interest through that, but also through the actors that were a part of the movie and incredible detail in the design work that make them seem almost real.…

Katniss, the protagonist, said “ Rules of the hunger games are simple. In punishment for uprising... Over a period of several weeks, the competitors fight to death. The last tribute standing wins.” This shows that she feels like the games are just for show only to help Panem, the nation the games take place in. The point of the games is to look back on a time when the districts rebelled against the Capitol, however, the games do not help anyone, as the brutality is too much for most of the games competitors to manage, especially in the lower districts.…
