The Empire of Greece and Rome
The Greek and Roman Empires both existed in the fifth century B.C. and reigned all the way up the 10th century A.D. The impression that these two societies have left on modern day society range from economical, culture, and even political practices of the that time still influence us till this day. One of the main focuses of the Roman Empire was to be able economically control and conquer as many regions as possible. Irrigation was used by a large number of farmers so they could grow their crops. The wealthy would have artisans make luxury things like jewelry to set them self apart from others. While the Romans were busy on their culture, the Greeks were becoming a well-educated group of aristocrats and would perfect their skills and offer them up to the government. They also knew the best way to run an empire would be to have people like philosophers and scientists to develop intellectual game plans. Most of the the farmlands would be ran on the labor of slaves, while other were employed as actors who would put on drama and comedy shows in outdoor theaters that could fit an astonishing 14,000 people to watch there plays. (Williams, 2009). Trade routes and trade in general were not that important to Greek Empire as it was to the Romans. The Romans also had deep roots in religion and would set up temples of worship across their entire empire and religious leader were some of the most respected people in their society. Romans also had their social classes separated and would only allow the wealthy to live in luxury houses and use the nice roads that were built in the region.
