Compare And Contrast The Roman Empire And The United States
The United States today is a major power similar to Ancient Rome. Being as strong as we are can be very beneficial, but will it lead to our ultimate destruction? History seems to be repeating itself as our successes are leading to a decline. If we continue to stay uneducated and divided through major issues, it is inevitable that we will fall like the Roman empire. The Roman empire and the United States are similar for many different reasons from overall size to military powers. Both nations are considered inefficient due to inconsistency in their governments. Just as Rome had many changes in their Caesars, we have had many changes in government positions due to decisions from our recent president. We also share a dominant military power. This contributes to the downward spiral of both nations because it is very expensive with little reward in return. With all of these similarities to the Roman empire, it is hard not to think that history is repeating itself. …show more content…
Controversy on issues like gun control, stem cell research, assisted suicide, global warming, and more are pushing us further apart. The main reason for this is because technology has given us the luxury of watching the news 24/7 instead of doing our own research. When these topics are discussed, people are so fixated on being right that we forget to try and find a solution. Nowadays our sources we receive our information from are biased and not truly based on facts, thus giving everyone a different side of the same story. Similar to Rome that was divided into two empires, we are divided into two different parties. Both Democrats and Republicans have different agendas, and the president in power over the last several terms has been unable to get them to meet in the middle and bring us

Imperial Rome and Han China had some similarities and differences in their foundation. In the eight century B.C.E., Rome began as a small city-state on the western side of Italy. Originally they were a monarchy but in 509 B.C.E. they knocked off the monarchy and made themselves republic. In their republic system, the wealthy class, known as patricians, dominated. The lower class was called plebeians. The Romans had laws that protected the lower class form abuse. The Romans took great pride in their system, believing it gave them more freedom. With this political system, the Romans launched their empire, a process that took more than 500 years. The Chinese were not building a new empire yet they were restoring the old. The Chinese empire started as early as 2200 B.C.E. By 5oo B.C.E. the Chinese state was in shambles which they considered as the warring states, which were seven kingdoms within the Chinese government fighting against each other. China finally reunified in 221 B.C.E. Han China and Imperial Rome are similar because they both flourished at about the same time (200 B.C.E. – 200 C.E.), conquered about the same amount of land (about 1.5 million square miles), and had about the same population (50 to 60 million). The reason for the similarities and differences in the foundation in both of the empires was because Rome was a new empire while the Han dynasty was just restoring the old but they were still the dame due to their similarity in the time era both empires flourished, they occupied a similar area, and they contained a similar population.…

The Roman and Han empires falls’ were also similar because of their decline in economic trade. Trade was extremely important for the Romans and Chinese so when it began to decline, so did the rest of the empire. As both empires borders expanded, they had to take more of the military to defend the borders rather than the trade routes, so the trade routes became compromised. People began stealing goods from merchants making the routes extremely dangerous. Because their was much less trade, the taxes to the government were greatly reduced so they had to tax the people more. Most people could not afford the hike in taxes so the government was still unable to get all of their money, thus resulting in decline.…

When Han China and Imperial Rome are compared, one can find both similarities and differences in terms of techniques of imperial administration. A similarity would be that both are bureaucracies. However, both are also different. One major difference is that Han China had the civil service exams. They also differed because Han China had a much greater emphasis on religion than the Romans. These differences led to very different futures for the two empires, both of which were among the strongest in the world at the time.…

The 20th-century government has evolved a substantial amount, containing two main parties: Democrats and Republicans. These parties were formed by strong disagreements, which still clash today with families, friends, and communities. These two parties have different views on taxes, the military, foreign relations, etc. All were created from a conflict between two early U.S. leaders: Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. These two had very different beliefs on economics, foreign policies, and views on manufacturing and agriculture.…

Hamilton and Jefferson had conflicting ideas on almost every issue, from how to interpret the Constitution, to who should lead the United States. As Hamilton and Jefferson gathered supporters, they both established parties. Hamilton created the Federalist Party ( the modern day equivalent to the Democratic Party). Federalists liked big national government; as opposed to Jefferson's Republican Party, which liked small national government to give more power to states. In the past, Republicans and Democrats have worked together and compromised on issues involving the country. However, recently, compromise is not being reached between the two parties. This has naturally created a divide in our country, which has only been amplified in recent presidential elections. In the words of former U.S ambassador Antonio Garza, "We've allowed ourselves to slide into the politics of anger and fear, of a group of name-calling, where the others – be they immigrants, bankers or supporters of the other candidate – are stupid, crazy, or corrupt. We've forgotten that these nameless individuals are often our neighbors, doctors, teachers, friends and family members" (Garza, 2). As illustrated by the quote, the supporters of both parties and the parties themselves are not working together. Instead, Republicans are too focused on stopping the Democratic party, and Democrats are too focused on stopping the Republican…

The United States and the Roman Empire share many differences and, even more, similarities. Some are evident while others are hardly noticeable. The Roman Empire faced attacks from the Huns like we face attacks from terrorists. Natural disasters caused many deaths and they still do today. The Romans lack of care and negligence for their well-being cost them in battle. The same will probably happen to us. It may not really seem like it but the United States is following in the footsteps of the Roman Empire. The similarities of the foreign threats, natural and environmental disasters, and laziness may be what will cause the fall of the United States.…

Despite these glaring differences, these two parties really see eye to eye on some major different ideals. Both love puzzles, depopulation, and totalitarian dictatorships. Why can’t we all just come together to see a new, better world, populated with our ideals?…
