Hinduism came about very long ago by a nomadic tribe known as the Aryans. Hindus believe in many gods and goddess making Hinduism a polytheistic religion. Hindus also believe in the caste system which is a system based on what family you were born into and segregated against people who weren’t in a high enough class. Siddhartha Gautama was a very wealthy Hindu in one of the highest classes. He had anything that he could have asked for but somehow was not fulfilled and happy. Siddhartha decided to leave his family, his kingdom, and all of his belongings to become an aesthetic. He meditated for forty days and only ate to sustain his life. After these days of meditation, he became enlightened and found the answers he was looking for. Siddhartha became the first Buddha. Since Siddhartha was part of Hindu faith he kept many of the same traditions but got rid of things he disagreed with in his new religion. Hinduism and Buddhism share many beliefs such as believing in reincarnation, karma, and symbolism. The two religions share a view of “heaven” like place; known as moksha for Hindus and nirvana for Buddhist. Also, they believe that to be able to reach moksha or nirvana people need to go through many reincarnations until you are “ready”. Karma is one of the main factors that go into being “ready” for the afterlife. Buddhist and Hindus believe that Karma is a sum of one's actions that lead to one’s fate.
