Compare And Contrast Judaism And Christianity

Christianity v. Judaism
There are hundreds of different religions practiced all over the world. Christianity and Judaism are two religions with similar origins, but varying beliefs, practices and teachings. With many comparable components, I will decipher the difference between the two goals of religion, life after death, and the direction of prayer.
Firstly, every religion has its own objective, something that it lives and works towards. The goal of Christianity is to love God, to obey his commandments, to build a relationship with Jesus Christ, and to spread the word of the gospel so that others can be saved eternally. On the other hand, the goal of Judaism is to celebrate life, fulfill the Covenant with God, do good deeds, repair the world, and love God with all of your heart. Nowhere in the Judaic religion do you see anything about believing in Jesus. Christians differ from Jews in their belief of the Messiah. Jews do not consider Jesus to be their Messiah; Jesus did not meet their expectations of being the Messiah, so they are continuing to wait for their Messiah, or the
saint, to fulfill the prophecy.
Furthermore, another thing that differs between Christians and Jews is their view of the afterlife. Christians believe in an eternity within Heaven or Hell, or in some cases, a temporal Purgatory. Purgatory is a term used in the Christian religion to describe the place you go before Heaven to expiate your sins. The Christian religion also tends to change depending on the denomination of the person, where the vast majority of denominations would believe that, after death, you will enjoy the presence of God and loved ones for eternity. The Judaic belief is that there is still another world to come, also known as reincarnation. Also, similar to many branches of Christianity, religious view change amongst the Jewish people. Jewish literature and sacred texts do not have much to say about what happens in the afterlife, but they both are said to be much more focused on actions than beliefs so that people practicing the Jewish religion do not worry about what is to come. Many denominations, other than Judaism, find this to be very peculiar because Christians are very elaborate on what will happen in the afterlife.
Lastly, the human nature which include the ways of thinking, feeling, and acting, is another difference between Christianity and Judaism; they also have some similarities as well.
Christians believe that every man has inherited “original sin” from Adam and is inherently evil and in need of forgiveness of sin. Christians choose their actions and how they live their lives. They believe that the human race is broken and in need of salvation from God. Jews know that you must choose good over bad and you must decide. According to the Jewish religion, You are not born with sin, you choose to sin and you have to repent your sins as you live. They also believe that you are responsible for your actions, not your thoughts, so that you have the option to act on what you are thinking, whether it be good or bad. Jews believe that every person is created in the image of God and they determine their
lives.
Being both religions originate from Abrahamic religion; they both have similarities and differences that can be deciphered and learned by all people. With numerous comparisons to be made between the two religions, you can learn so much from the religions of many types of people all over the world.
