Public transportation had major events with racism. For example, a famous african american women Rosa Parks was on a bus where all the african americans were allowed to sit anywhere until and white people showed up. Once the whites did show up all the african americans were forced to move to the back of the bus. Rosa Parks had a much better idea at the time. A white person came on the bus and told Rosa to get out of her seat but Rosa refused which in the end was one of the best actions she done at the time. The bus driver refused to go on until Rosa would have moved back and Rosa still refused. The bus driver ended up calling the police and once they showed up they threw Rosa ot if the bus. This action had a great impact on our american history even to this day. Rosa quoted that “People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn’t true. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.” (Brainyquote 1) This quote meant a ton at the time and still does to this day. Public transportation had a huge impact on why everyone is equal and should be given the same rights no matter what the race. But sadly public transportation still does have it racism to this day as shown by people who work in the public transportation not the company. Al Roker a NBC news reporter is of the african american descent and is famous for his job. Al Roker was in New York City trying to call a taxi cab when the driver drove passed him to pick up a citizen who was white. Al Roker had this to say, “Filed a complaint today after getting passed up again by a NYC Yellow cab. Cabbie picked up a white guy a block away. Wonder why Uber wins?”(Ed Mazza 1) This shows that racism in the public sadly still exists today. In total, no matter what the year and place there will always be racism in the world with public transportation and in
