Ree lives in the rural Ozarks with her mother and her two younger siblings. Ree has taken on the responsibilities as a “mother” to her younger siblings due to her mother being ill. She shows all mother qualities when it comes to her siblings. She teaches them how to hunt and how to cook. They both face obstacles that appear to be impossible but overcome them. In the process of their missions, they teach others how to be fearless, responsible, and protective over the things that matter the most to them. They both have a person alongside them that stands with them in the end for Ree that's her uncle Teardrop and for Beowulf its Wiglaf, who stands by his side when he is faced with the challenge of the dragon. Ree was challenged when she was severely beaten by the Milton women and Beowulf was challenged when he needed to fight off Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. Although Beowulf appears to have had a greater challenged than Ree, we need to see that Ree is only a teenager. She wasn’t suppose to grow up and be a caretaker for her mother, go on a scavenger hunt for her father who turned out to be dead and most important be a mother for her two younger
