Compare And Contrast Rosemary And The Four Gutsy Gnomes

For task 1 which is on adaptation, I chose one story prescribed in the Year 4 textbook and a poem from the ‘Anthology of Poems for Year 4, 5, 6’. The title of the story is ‘Rosemary and the Four Gutsy Gnomes’, while the poem is entitled ‘Grandma’s House’.
The reason why I chose these two literary texts is because each story has its own strength. The fairy tales of Rosemary and the Four Gutsy Gnomes is very interesting as it has several unique characters such as the fairies, elves, gnomes and monsters. Children love to read a story with the element of magic. Thus, I believe that the children would love to read this story and enjoy themselves. Apart from that, I chose this story is because the story line is not too simple or too complex for young children and they will surely enjoy reading the story without any difficulties.
It tells about a kid who loves to go to his grandma’s house and spends times with his grandma. When I first read the poem, I can recall my childhood memories and I find it interesting to have such kind of feeling when reading this poem. Hence, I believe that the other children will also have the same feeling as mine. Besides, I want to try teaching a literary text that is not from a fairy-tale based stories which I think can be said have been used too many times.
