Compare And Contrast The Crown By Suzanne Weyn
Keira Cass and Suzanne Weyn are two authors who ask questions that others are afraid to ask or don't even think of. What could the future look like? What if’s? These are only some questions that they have asked themselves when starting to write The Crown: by Kiera Cass published May 2016, and Empty: by Suzanne Weyn published in 2010. Kiera Cass is a young woman who has written an archetype based on Cinderella and Esther. She imagines “what if” for both stories. Suzanne Wayne; however, found inspiration through current events and studying what people in the past have said about future problems. In The Crown the main character Eadlyn is inspired to become a better version of herself. This happens through her mother getting ill, and the fact that she must become Queen. In Empty the …show more content…

Cass a 35 year old women has written a story that many girls, and women have read. Cass has written many books for The Selection series and The Crown is the last book. One must go back to the first book to understand why Cass wrote The Crown and what had inspired the whole idea. Wherever you look online people say that The Selection is a series that is a mixture of The Hunger Games and The Bachelor. Although this is very true these are not the sources that inspired Cass to write her books. One must look way back into history to find the inspirations for these books. Throughout Elizabeth Panttaja’s article, the audience is provided with impressive mental illustrations in which portray the Cinderella society recognizes today as deceptive. The idea Pantajja is presenting to her intended audience comes from the foundation of the original Cinderella titled “Ashputtle.” Panttaja discloses that “Cinderella….has little to do with her being a standup citizen and more to do with her intense loyalty to her dead mother and a string of subversive acts; she disobeys the stepmother, enlists in forbidden helpers, uses magical powers, lies, hides, dissembles, disguises herself and evades pursuit”(Panttaja #60). The superior statement may be directly interpreted as Pantajja believes firmly that Cinderella is horribly misbehaved, disrespectful alongside deceitful.…

Turning one's life into a movie, based on a book that they wrote can be very difficult; movies can be perceived very differently than perceived in a book. Jeanette Walls wrote her memoir, The Glass Castle, about growing up in a nomadic and dysfunctional household, yet having a family that gave her experiences no other child had. In 2017, the film The Glass Castle was released, made to replicate the book. There are many similarities and slight differences between the book and movie. A major difference between the film The Glass Castle and the book version is the seriousness of Jeanette's injury.…

The story of Cinderella finds its way into so many children's hearts because of a resemblance children feel with the heroine. Both Bettelheim and Kolbenschlag agree that sibling rivalry is both a very real and very strong force in a child's emotional composition. The feeling of unimportance inflicted by sibling rivalry allows children to associate closely with the character of Cinderella. Regardless of how absurdly overdramatized Cinderella's burdens seem to adults, children see themselves in a position that mirrors the characters'. Both critics go on to suggest that because Cinderella's "true identity" is later released, and that she "lives happily ever after," that children see themselves someday leading extraordinary lives also. Where Bettelheim and Kolbenschlag begin to differ on this topic is how each sex is affected differently by the main plot of the story. Bettelheim makes no distinction between the perceptions of girls and boys of the story, whereas Kolbenschlag says differently. Kolbenschlag feels that both boys and girls are attracted to the story in a similar manner, but she also believes that the tale lays a blueprint to be followed by…

The common fairytale portrays the stereotypical “damsel in distress,” who is helpless until her male savior typically rescues her. Many fairytales address the theme of gender roles as well as many others. The female character takes on the feeble, desolate role, while the male character takes on the strong, hero role similar to the stories of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. However, Elizabeth, the protagonist of The Paper Bag Princess defies typical gender roles as a female character and becomes the hero of the story. Cinderella and The Paper Bag Princess share many qualities, but have major differences as well. Cinderella is an example of a woman who occupies traditional, domestic roles, but she does not portray the modern, liberated woman Elizabeth exhibits.…

The first quote that really motivated me was Joan Didon’s quote "Was it only by dreaming or writing that I could find out what I thought?" This really inspired me to think past of who I am as a writer and how I bring myself to the page with my strengths and weaknessess. For me the greatest part of writing is daydreaming and witnessing the transformation I go through when dreaming the dream of my story until it breaks out of the writing down of it which I always find hard.…

In life, sometimes you get discouraged and want to give up but, Angelou said, “if you can’t do something change it if you can’t change it, change your attitude” (Haigh). This is inspiring because humans have a lot of agency over their lives, their feelings, and their beliefs.…

The twenty-first century has transformed from traditional customs to more liberal ideas. One example is the view of Cinderella and how she may be detrimental to young females or how she can be molded to society’s view and become empowered. Critic from Time magazine and author of “The Princess Paradox,” James Poniewozik discusses how the idea of princesses can be powerful or harmful to the adolescent women of today. He emphasizes Hollywood’s version of Cinderella in real life portrayals and suggests that there are quite a few princesses in existence who are strong and self-determined and not weak and helpless. Like Poniewozik, Peggy Orenstein examines roles of princesses; however, she does so in a different light. Self-proclaimed feminist and author of “Cinderella and Princess Culture,” Orenstein describes how as a mother of the Grranimals era she is struggling with her daughter growing up in the princess world (671). The author points out many different aspects of the princess culture that she fears may be more than a craze, such as Club Libby Lu, the princess franchise, and animated movies of Disney princesses. Although both authors agree that princesses may be just a phase, Orenstein fears from a mothers’ perspective that princesses are a negative role model, whereas Poniewozik describes from a critic’s point of view that princess could potentially do no harm.…

What would our childhoods have been like without Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters, or the seven dwarfs that accompanied snow white? These, amongst many other fairytales have been around and passed along for decades. The traditional Disney princess culture keeps being praised and applauded for the entertainment they bring to little girls. It is so widely accepted nowadays that most parents can’t even imagine not incorporating the Disney stories into their daughters’ lives. While the stories themselves tend to be appropriate for young girls, the subliminal messages behind them aren’t. Parents and guardians are so wrapped up in the fantasy themselves that they forget to ask themselves how their daughters may internalize the stories. At a first glance, these stories seem to be quite innocent but in reality these stories and basically the Princess culture, specifically in Cinderella and Snow White, encourages girls to be damsels in distress whose role it is to look good and wait for a handsome prince to swoop in, ‘save her’ and that after she’s saved they would live a life happily ever after. All of which are notions that shouldn’t be taught to young girls.…
