John Smith wrote of the relationship between the colonists and the Native Americans.
In the movie Pocahontas John Smith is working with a man whose name is Governor Ratcliffe and he has an army of men whom called the Native Americans savages. The Governor is and his men traveled from England to what they call the New World in Virginia to start a new life. Meanwhile, Meeko whom is Pocahontas’s pet raccoon meets Percy, Ratcliffe's dog. Pocahontas introduces Smith to Grandmother Willow and avoids two other crewmen, but Pocahontas's friend Nakoma discovers her relationship with Smith and runs off to inform Kocoum. Later, Smith and Pocahontas go to meet with Grandmother Willow and there they ask her how they can plan to bring peace between the colonists and the tribe. Smith and Pocahontas share their first kiss, while Kocoum and Thomas witness from a distance behind the trees in the forest. In an angry jealous rage Kocoum attacks and tries to kill John Smith. Instead Kocoum is shot and killed by Thomas whom is a part of the Governor’s army as well as John Smith’s friend. This was in an attempt to save Smith from Kocoum. Pocahontas watches in horror as Kocoum falls to his death in the river, reaching for Pocahontas one last time but instead he pulls her mother's necklace causing to break right off her neck. Smith then demands Thomas leave before Pocahontas’s tribesman come and capture him. Instead they capture John Smith while Kocoum's friends take Kocoum's lifeless
