COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE LIVES OF TWO FAMOUS PEOPLE
The two famous people I am going to discuss in the following essay are Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. I decided to do so, because I am a huge fan of the shock rock star Brian Warner (a. k. a. Marilyn Manson), whose stage name is a combination of Marilyn Monroe’s first name and Charles Manson’s last name. Both Monroe and Manson are very famous figures in American culture, yet at the same time very different. But how much exactly did they differ from each other? First of all, Marilyn Monroe was a woman, which is the most obvious difference of all. According to Wikipedia, she was born in 1926 and died very young at the age of 36 in 1962. Charles Manson, on the other hand, was born not that long after her – in 1936 – yet he is still alive and well. Their goals in life were also different – while Norma Jeane (as was Monroe’s real name) became an actress and a sex symbol who entertained her fans both with her movies and with erotic photos in the Playboy magazine, Manson was a man of short stature – he is not known for being beautiful and he preferred to turn his followers into vicious murderers rather than entertaining them, hence the reason of him serving a lifelong sentence in prison. According to Wikipedia, however, before being imprisoned, he was involved in 1960s rock’n’roll and has continued to record music in jail even in present time. As for their families, Wikipedia further states that both of them had a troubled childhood. Their alleged biological fathers did not take responsibility for them, and their mothers were not the best parents a child could dream for, either. In fact, Manson’s mother Kathleen Maddox was only 16 when she gave birth to him. An alcohol addict, she rejected her own son. Monroe’s mother Gladys Baker, on the other hand, was mentally unstable, which rendered her unable to look after her daughter. As neither of
