Compare and/or Contrast Working in Private Sector and Government Sector.
The working environment is categorized into two sectors which is the private sector and government sector. Private sector includes all types of profit business that are not owned or operate by the government. Meanwhile, the government sector provides services that non-payer cannot be excluded from and services that benefits the society rather than just the individual who uses the service. There are some differences based on the working hours, benefits and room of improvement possess by these two sectors. One of the main differences is the working hours of the sector. In private sector, working hours are more flexible for employees. This enables employees to carry out their responsibilities without affecting their performances at work. On the other hand, employees in government sector are required to work eight hours a day. Employees that are able to balance with working hours and their responsibilities prove to be more satisfied with their jobs. In addition, benefit packages offered by organizations in private and government sectors differ. Private sectors might only provide benefits that are mandated by the law which includes minimum wages, overtime, worker’s compensation and disabilities and others. However, government sector introduces great insurance and retirement benefits that make it working for the government attractive. For instance, the Labor Department of U.S. reported that 88% of state and local government worker had access to employer –sponsored medical plans compared to 71% of private sector workers. This helps in the increasing of retention of employees in an organization. Besides that, the availability of room to improve distinguishes between private sector and government sector. In private sector, employees stand a easier chance to obtain a raise in pay because decisions are made within the organization instead of having to follow central procedures and rules. On top of that, the ability to move upwards quickly in an organization is higher.

As the price of medical coverage rises among all countries, more and more companies offer medical coverage as a benefit that attracts and retains employees.
