Proms today have changed; they are much more upscale events. They no longer are held in school gymnasiums, but rather in luxury hotels, fancy catering halls, or high class country/beach clubs. They have multi-course sit down meals and are entertained by music professionals. Students no longer borrow their parents' cars; instead they rent lavish cars or limousines. Even the dress is more extravagant, boys rent tuxedos and girls spent a fortune on the perfect dress which is usually an evening gown. Proms are not just a one night thing anymore either. After the prom is over, some students set off to a weekend of celebrating. The weekend is unsupervised and involves both males and females. For some, it is the first time going away without their families.…

New York City is known as “The Big Apple” for its large buildings, tourism, and entertainment. On the other hand, the city of Florence in Kentucky is known for the horse track racing at the Turfway Park located 10 miles from the Ohio River. When most high school seniors graduate, they plan on immediately attending college to better their lives. The goal is to get a successful job that will pay enough to provide for the needs, and most of the wants of life. Unfortunately, the great cost of attendance at most universities leaves many students scratching their heads about how they will pay for the better future they desire. Some dig into their life savings, some receive scholarships, and most apply for student loans. But are student loans truly a good idea? Will the load of debt most acquire from student loans help deliver the grand future most students dream of, or will it actually hinder their chances of getting a job, and therefore make college, and their decision to be up to their ears in debt, a huge mistake? The article, End U.S. Student Loans, Don 't Make Them Cheaper, by Richard Vedder says that student loans will do more harm than good, while Jordan Weissmann 's article, More Student Debt, Please: Why College Students Don 't Borrow Enough, takes a positive approach to student loans. While both pieces offer reasoned points, only one can have more validity, but which one?…

In its modernity, Halloween is the only day out of the entire year where a person is encouraged to be someone wildly different from themselves, with (almost) no negative repercussions. Thus, people tend to outdo themselves when it comes to crafting their "persona" for the night, taking much of their inspiration from movies, video games, the news, and even Internet memes to build the greatest costumes.…

Getting to dress up for Halloween is my second reason why I think it is appropriate to trick-or-treat. Middle School students don’t get to dress up any other day, but Halloween. Halloween is the day for students to goof off and look cute, scary, funny, or cool. If we dressed up at school like we did on Halloween, we would get teased and laughed at. This is why Halloween is the day Middle School students should dress up.…

Highschool life is a very challenging life as an individual. It is in our higschool life where we experience lots of things. It is also in our highschool life where we felt pain, joy and specially love. For me, among the four years of being a highschool student, the most exciting year is being a junior and a senior. I consider being a junior and a senior the most exciting year in a highschol life because of many reasons. One reason is that, in our junior year and senior year we celebrated the so-called "Junior, seniors promenade" or also known as the "JS PROM". A prom, short for promenade, is a formal dance, or gathering of high school students. It is typically held at the end of junior and/or senior year. According to our teacher, promenade is is the passing of responsibility by the seniors to the junior who will be later become a senior. It is the time where all the girls wear their elegant and beautiful dress with their matching shoes and make-up while for the gentlemen, they wear their formal long sleeves with a neck tie and sometimes accompanied by a vest or even a tuxedo. This is event is very nice.It teaches the students to socialize with other people. I am sure that it was a night to remember.…
