Informative Essay
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of the history of Halloween.
Thesis Statement: The most superstitious holiday, Halloween, can be divided into its history, tradition, and its evolution. Introduction Halloween is a time where you dress up, decorate, watch scary movies, scare others and eat as much candy until you get sick. Do you believe that’s what it’s really about? If you said no you are correct. Don’t be discourage, because I believed Halloween was the time you dress up and go trick- or- treating. However that is not the case. I stand before you to share what I have learned about the most superstitious holiday; Halloween’s history, tradition, and its evolution.

Its original name was All Hollows Evening.
A. All Hallows Evening is a celebrated in a lot of countries. On October 31, was the eve of the Western Christian feast All Hallows' Day. It begun the three-day celebration of the time in the year that was dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the faithful departed
B. It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from Celtic harvest festivals which may have pagan roots, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain, and that this festival was Christianized as Halloween.
Transition: Now that I gave you insight about the history of Halloween, let move on to its traditions.
II. The traditional Halloween that has been passed down from generation to generation is more superstitious and ghostly then it is today.
1. They ate certain foods and did certain things.
A. The Christian religious belief of All Hallows' Eve, was attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of their loved ones. Some Christians abstained from eating meat on All Hallows' Eve, which referred them to eating certain foods like apples, potato pancakes and soul cakes.
