During the trip, we found a land called Spirit Mound 6 miles north of the river. Lewis and Clark took several men and hiked a few hours north of the river. Their goal was to investigate an isolated hill on the prairie rumored to be inhabited by fierce spirit people who were 18 inches tall. They had remarkably large heads and could through shafts across a great distance to kill. Lewis and Clark took several men and hiked a few hours to get there

beautiful plants. One of the favorite plants we found was the western red baneberry. We found this plant on Aug 13,1805 on the Lemhi river,. This plant is bushy with large divided leaves and short, thick, rounded clusters of small white flowers in leaf at the stems end.
We also found some exotic animals. Another one that was my favorite is the thirteen lined ground squirrel. It is brownish colored with 13 alternating brown and white lines (sometimes partially broken into spots) on the back and sides of its body . it has rows of whitish spots within the dark lines.
Lewis and Clark wanted to establish good relations with the Native Americans and announce that the territory is now under control of the United States government.
William Clark approached three Nez Perce boys carefully. He was afraid he would frighten them and make a bad first impression on the tribe. Offering the boys gifts of ribbons, he eased their fears and we were soon led to the settlement of tepees. After Lewis joined them a few days later the expedition discussed the trade alliances and peace. Once we made the alliances with the tribe we met a woman. Her name was Sacagawea. She knew a lot of medicine from the earth and the ground. She joined us and helped us find our way. She intrepid Lewis and Clark along the way. Lewis was a soldier explorer and was the best known for being a leader. He died in 1809 from gunshot wounds. Clark was also a soldier and explorer that help Lewis leaded the expedition. Clark was a farmer and served as a governor. Overall, the Lewis and Clark expedition that explored the Louisiana Territory was a great contribution to the U.S. Without all the new things they learned it would've taken longer to tame the land. Lewis and Clark helped pay the way for our
future.
