At first, Mulan struggles to keep up with the men, but over time she proves to herself and to others around her that she can be just like the men (or even better) in terms of strength, intelligence, and skills needed in the war. Mulan is a strong character who does make a difference in terms of empowering women in Disney films. Despite her lack of training, she jumps into the war effort because she wants to protect her father. Instead of waiting around for love like other Disney lead female characters, Mulan is active and is not concentrated on love as her main goal in life.
