I mainly observed single family track homes, one story, and mostly in good condition. Most homes had wood foundation with pitched roofs. Stucco, brick, and wood are the main finishes used on the outside of the houses noted. There seems to be ownership pride within majority of the community. Houses are an average of 10 feet apart. Similar, because they are farmers to the pueblo indians had their own way to living. They depended on their farming skills in order to sustain a more sedentary lifestyle. The Pueblo Indians developed a skill called Pumice. The object that was being used absorbs all water like a sponge and then releases it slowly as time goes by. For example, according to source #3 the Makah had large permanent home evidence to support this is this statement made in the video “ The Coastal tribes (Makah) had large permanent homes constructed of large cedar trees, wood pegs were used as nails. The houses were about fifty to one hundred and fifty feet long and twenty to sixty feet wide. The houses had low ceilings to keep heat in and an incline in the living room with a fire pit inside. Their was a whole in the ceiling and totem poles in front of every house that shows the history of the family living their. Woven mats were used as curtains, towels, separators to separate rooms and mats to sit on.” This evidence shows that the Makah used their resources very well and lived in mainly big wooden houses. However the Nez Perce lived in houses made of tall poles. According to The Washington Journal on page forty it states “ At time the plateau people built more permanent dwellings called pit houses. The house was built partially above ground. The walls were made of tall poles covered with thinner poles, or in other places or later years, with woven mats. The person who wanted to build the house asked all his neighbors to help.” This evidence shows that the Nez Perce tribe used different materials because of their environment. Both the Makah and the Nez Perce had permanent houses and they both had to…

The New England and Chesapeake regions varied in many ways. They varied economically, socially, and religiously. The three regions of colonial development were very alike, however, very different at the same time. The New England colonies led very strict, Puritan lifestyles. New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island of the New England colonies were all founded due to religious conflict or the stretch for religious freedom. The Middle colonies were a mixture of religions such as Quakers, Catholics, and Jews. The Southern colonies had the most religious tolerance; this colonial region had about 10 differing religions all throughout the area. The New England colonies were not very successful with farming due to the dysfunctional terrain. Because of this they heavily relied on fishing, shipbuilding and textiles. The Middle colonies were dependent on agriculture and trade. The Southern colonies had slave trade, rice, and tobacco.…

An important similarity between the Chesapeake region and the New England region from 1607-1754, would be that they both brought people over from England who were looking for a fresh start and new beginning. This gave the regions something in common. Because with the magority of the colonists being from England, they had similar ideas and mostly all spoke the same language. Later on, their similar ideas and knowing the same language would help the regions come together to form a single…

Coastal and Plateau Native Americans had very different housing styles. The Coastal lived in houses called longhouses. Longhouses were large permanent cedar log houses that were usually 40 to 100 feet long. There were no windows and very few doors (Lambert 105). On the other hand, the Plateau Natives lived in tepees. Since the Plateau Natives were nomadic, which means they did not stay in one place for long, they moved frequently. That required a form of shelter that was easy to put up and take down. A tepee is a cone shaped shelter made of several long poles covered by woven mats or animal hides. During the winter, the Plateau Native Americans would move into caves, or construct a pit house which is covered in animal skin, hides,…
