Comparing Teresa And Rubi By Yolanda Vargas Dulche

Teresa and Rubi are based on a novel called “tears, laughter and love”,written by Yolanda Vargas Dulche in the 1960s.The first film released was “Rubi”, in 2004 by televisa and in 2010 was published a remake of the novel called “Teresa”. Both films are based on a beautiful women that was raised in poverty, which is ashamed of and desires a luxuries lifestyle. She is determined to seek revenge to those who have humiliated her for being poor. Her ambition for money was so big that it was never enough, and was willing to do anything no matter what. With her beauty she would use people for her convinces but, life later on started going downhill for her and had to pay a great price for her actions. I think from both films,“Teresa” was the best production
Teresa used academic intelligence to achieve her goals when entering a private school.In chapter one, after her graduation from high school she said “Because of the half scholarship I earned and with the help of my aunt who helped me pay it, I had the opportunity to go to a private school”.She focused to earn what she wanted with by her work and knowledge which impressed her classmates and adults around her.The protagonist used emotions and manipulation to achieve her goals without letting others know her true intentions, something that Rubi did as well with the people around her but used her manipulation to make fun of others for falling in her
As for Rubi, it brought a negative impression when Rubi never changed and the director leaving a cliffhanger. According to critics “It was quite troublesome to not have closure in Rubi, it really made the audience over think the situation leaving a bad impression as for Teresa, the audience got what they wanted and deserved to have the satisfaction to see a happy ending”. Teresa’s different scenarios did have at some moments which brought the audience questionable and mysterious moments but at the end the un answered mysteries were answered which made the audience happy. The film produced an ideal soap opera that the audience crave and appreciated the symbolism displayed to show a deeper meaning to the characters
