The Catcher in the Rye / The Door and Dead Poets Society.
Change is an inevitable process of life and can be the most complexing and difficult thing we come to face in our lives. It is something we must overcome in many aspects, shapes and forms. However in whatever form it comes our way, we must embrace it and not be afraid because a fear of change can lead to an unfulfilled life. In my opinion change is a very complex thing and can be embraced though it is a hard process it is also a fact of life. The Catcher in the Rye, The Door and Dead Poets Society contributed to my new understanding of change.
The Catcher in the Rye has many key points on change one being that resisting change is futile. This is a key point in The Catcher in the Rye and it is pointed out in many areas.
In the Door change is portrayed as life experiences and that your fear of change is stopping you from living your life. it also shows that resisting change is futile and that not all …show more content…
change is bad.
Furthermore in The Door change is portrayed as unpredictable but it also must be excepted. Though it depends on ones vew of change and how they portray it from The Door, change is a natural part of life and resisting it is only stopping us from living it to the full extent which is conveyed in both The Door and The Catcher in the Rye.
In The Catcher in the Rye another big change idea is that the world will not change to suit you.
It is shown in many points throughout The Catcher in the Rye. Holden's fear of change makes it very hard for him to move on in his life and accept the changes no matter how small that come his way. He wants to stay innocent and naive like a child and is scared that he is growing up. This point is clearly shown in the museum of natural history where Holden states that he loves the museum of natural history because everytime he goes there it is the same but he is worried because everytime he has changed. Holden says "the best thing, though,in that museum is that everything always stayed right where it was". It colloquial language in holdens casual way of speaking and also that paragraph continued uses imagery when he describes the museum and you can image the figures standing in the class boxes. It points out clearly holdens fear of change but also that he wants the world to change to suit
him.
In all the texts we have studied throughout the year i have learnt, that change though it can be hard at times, it is also inevitable and a part of life. Change is an ongoing thing, no matter how much we try to resist it and it also can be good or bad change but that conclusion rests on how you choose to view and accept it. the Catcher in the Rye, the Door and Dead Poet's Society have all help with my new understanding of change and made me see that change is a natural part of life that should be embraced.
