Change Is Inevitable
Change Is Inevitable Change is what it is. It can either mean progress or catastrophe for any one person. It is how the person experiences it, that gives change a good or bad meaning. Change can be very hard to attain, but if we learn how to engage all six sources of influences and the basic tools for manifesting, we will be able to succeed in making a change. Last year was my first year in college. I had just graduated from high school and was eager to see what college would be like. Before I started my first semester I knew that I needed to change a habit of mine in order to succeed in my college classes. I had to learn how to stop procrastinating. This is a common habit among many college students. I knew that this habit would be hard to kick, but I created a plan for myself. I began making a to-do list every morning and on that list I would complete the hardest task first. I put a time limit for each task and motivated myself to complete the task before or at the limit of time. While doing these tasks I would remove as many distractions as I could like my phone, laptop, or TV. I also scheduled breaks for myself throughout the day. After making this a routine of mine for about a month, I began to notice that I had stopped procrastinating. I got all my work done on time and I was successful in many of my classes. I learned that through disciplining and motivating myself, I was able to gain the skills to kick my habit of procrastinating. In order to be successful in making a change we first need to learn how to engage all six sources of influence which are: personal motivation, personal ability, social motivation, social ability, structural motivation, and structural ability. In the article, “Help Your Clients to Achieve Greatness,” by Stacy Nelson, she explains to us how we can use these six sources of influence to make a successful change. The first is personal motivation, through this we learn how to love what we hate. The moment we start to see the

“Move Yourself” is a book written by Tedd Mitchell, Tim Church, and Martin Zucker in 2008 about the benefits of exercise. The book also outlines steps that can be taken to slowly improve exercise behaviors for those of any activity level, based on the exercise research performed by the authors. This book was chosen for review after reading a brief description of it. I figured I would gain more personally. After reading others opinion of the book, including those of celebrities, on how this book changed their exercise habits I was sold. The book turned out to be interesting, helpful, and packed full of tools that I plan to implement into a daily routine. During this read I learned just how simple changes can make a big difference. I loved that they incorporated scenarios to better explain some of the concepts.…

In the inaugural post for this blog, I want to start by covering the simple philosophy I have followed my entire life. If you set your mind to it, you can accomplish anything. Although this theory applies to everything we might encounter throughout life, it is my belief that it is particularly relevant in the fitness world. Whatever your mind set has been in the past, abandon it for the notion that you can do whatever you are willing to work for.…

Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

I am a hopeless procrastinator. I don’t start homework until its due, if at all. That used to be okay when I was in high school. I was able to work, go to school, participate in a plethora of extra-curricular activities, and date, all while maintaining an above 3.0 GPA. It's just a really bad habit that I've never actually taken the time to fix. When I was in high school I loved succeeding, but I never had to really work for it. It just came to me naturally. I've gotten to college and while none of the material is really complicated to me I just don't have the interest for it. I have terrible time management skills. I don’t keep up with important dates and the dates I do remember I put off until the last minute.…
