The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs is a story of misfortune. The author uses foreshadowing in the story to build tension, and suspense to keep the reader entertained. W.W. Jacob does this by creating certain plot twists, and pacing the story rapidly but still having lots of detail. This book reminds me of being careful for what I wish for and lessons learned. The story begins with the main character, Mr. White, receiving a monkey's paw from a friend.…

The second most suspenseful story I believe is The Monkey’s Paw. I believe this suspense story deserves the second place title because this story, much like The Tell-Tale Heart, paired fear and horror with the suspense. In The Monkey’s Paw, the author uses the fear of being buried alive, which I think is another interesting way to create dread in your reader, this helps the suspense flow a little smoother, because now your reader is worried and just has to know what happens to the character. I love that this suspense story used classic suspense, the suspense was how you would expect suspense to be; the beginning was a dark and stormy night and the characters were living their normal lives until someone showed up knocking at the door. One of…

But, when a raven arrives (presumbably to rid him of his sorrow) he becomes furious, proving that what he wanted isn't what he needed. In "Monkey's Paw", the husband and wife wish for 200 pounds and recieved it, but at the cost of the death of their son. This shows that by getting what they wanted they lost what they needed. In "The Tell-Tale Heart", the narrator wanted to kill the old…
