Women should not be objectified or be oppressed, while they are expected to act like so and are treated as such. The Yellow Wallpaper does …show more content…
One quote from this text that conveys how she is being treated is during the final days of her “cure”, “I can’t, said I. ‘The Key is down by the front door under a plantain leaf!’ And then I said it again, several times, very gently and slowly, and said it so often that he had to go and see, and he got it of course, and came in. He stopped short by the door. ‘What is the matter?’ he cried. ‘For God’s sake, what are you doing! [...] Now why should that man have fainted? But he did and right across my path by the wall, so that I had to creep over him every time!”(Gilman 9). One quote from the “Ray Rice Articles”, in which gives evidence for the message of the story is when the article talks about how people will start to follow in suit if you do it first and stand up for yourself, “After the Rice video was circulated online Monday, the hotline received over 1,000 phone calls. The numbers continue to climb on Tuesday”(Bassett 1). This quote alone shows how impactful it is when people speak out, within days of her speaking out more than 1,000 people called in! The author of the article is illustrating the message of how women should speak out if anything is happening to them, if they are being oppressed, harassed, or abused and attempting to convince them by suggesting that many more will follow in their footsteps. Many women are being oppressed and aren't speaking out about it because they are scared and they feel that they are the only ones, they are alone. If just one person speaks out in the community, you may not know it but many more will follow in suit. Similarly, the quote from “The Yellow Wallpaper” that best describes the message is one from the end, where the author explains why they had written the story, which explains the reason people back in the 1900s used the Rest Cure and how they thought it was good and they believed it worked,
