This is simply because some things don't translate into a screenplay as well as some would think. At the end of the story line, it is exposed that Viola is a woman when Sebastian arrives. In the play, the Duke instantly gives up on Olivia and promises to marry Viola as soon as she looks like a girl. On the contrary, Duke was mad at Viola for lying to him in the movie. Also, Shakespeare wrote that Viola specifically went to Illyria to work for Duke Orsino and Olivia, but it was then told in the movie that Viola went to Illyria for other reasons, not even knowing who Olivia and Duke were. However, the two are very similar in such a way that She's the Man and Twelfth Night are both comedic love stories and are guided along the same paths of ideas.
Shakespeare, the great writer he was, has written many pieces, one of which includes his comedy, Twelfth Night. Andy Fickman, the director of She's the Man, put a spin to Shakespeare's original work. He created an enjoyable film that highly resembles the play. He changed the character development and successfully modernized it as well.
