Following a career of your dreams comes with consequences and the realization of who the real supporters in your life are. In the movie A Hard Day’s Night it portrayed the members of The Beatles as a band with a perfect mythical life of mischievous acts and female screaming fans that run after them everywhere they go. While Johnny Cash, in the movie Walk the Line, undergoes a more realistic and factual lifestyle with struggles of being an absent dad and a depressed person that gets dragged into a life-changing addiction. Although A Hard Day’s Night and Walk the Line are similar in symbolizing the motto “follow your dreams” I favored Walk the Line more because it's more relatable in the sense of tough love from Cash’s father.…

The movie ìO Brother, Where Art Thou?î is strikingly similar to Homerís ìOdysseyî in both plot and character description. In fact, one critic notes, ìO Brother Where Art Thou?î is a Homeric journey through Mississippi during the Depression.î(Ebert p 1) Thus, we find the modern film depiction of the troubles of a man during the depression is molded by the ancient struggles of Odysseus in Homerís Odyssey. Specifically, three parallels surface in the discussion of the similarities between Homerís classic epic and ìO Brother Where Art Thou?î The Cyclops encounter for instance, is transcendent between both works. Furthermore, each story contains a comparable perspective of the Lotus Eaters. Finally, the strongest parallel between the ìOdysseyî and ìO Brother, Where Art Thou?î is the mystical call of the Sirens and the powers of the witch goddess Circe.…

Like us, many of you had a loved one that lived during the Great Depression. Many of us have heard stories from our parents or grandparents of the horrific times of the depression; stories that told us how hard it was to find a job, put food on the table, and to provide shelter for the family. Learning how to live without things was a battle all by itself. Hearing the stories made me grateful to be born in a different era. However, each era has it 's own battles to fight that will change the direction of the economy and maybe the world.…

Who cares how he met Mrs.Cadaver?” Sal isn’t looking at her father’s perspective and is lacking empathy to her father. She is also disrespecting her father which affects the way she is viewed. In the middle of the novel, Sal is beginning to empathize with Phoebe, when her mother leaves instead of being stubborn and ignoring. “I felt bad for Phoebe. I knew I should get up and try to be nice, but I remembered when I had felt like that, and I knew that sometimes you just wanted to be alone with the birds of sadness.” Sal is starting to empathize with others because instead of forcing a situation with Phoebe she remembers how she felt when her mother left and decided to give Phoebe space and time. At the end of the novel Sal is empathizing with people in all sorts of situations. In this quote, Sal is starting to learn more about herself than at the beginning. “It seems to me that we can’t explain all the truly awful things in the world like war and murder and brain tumors and we can’t fix these things, so we look at the frightening things that are closer to us and we magnify them…

A war that originated because the nation was divided ultimately marked the beginning of a truly unified United States. The Civil War put to rest the increasing sectionalism that divided the North, the South, and the newly colonized West. At the root were the issues of slavery in the South, and the attempt of the Southern states to withdraw from the Union. Although many lives and untold millions were lost in personal belongings, livestock, and structures, the Civil War set in motion the progression towards a unified Nation. A woman has to perform duties and routines in a relationship as the men choose and tells her to do. But there is always a time when people realize that the ways of living should not be the way they are and that they have to change in order to live with their true selves instead of someone else controlling their lives. However, in S.E Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, two characters have these differences. Dally Winston and Johnny Cade are similar because they both have abusive parents and they both care about one another. On the other hand they have opposite personalities and have different opinions on the law. Therefore, Dally Winston and Johnny Cade are very similar yet completely different.…
