The 2014 live action remake brings Maleficent's harsh reality to light. Maleficent grew up in the Moors, a neighboring kingdom to the mortals, where she became the respected protector of the Moors. As a child she fell in love with a mortal boy named Stephen, who gave her what he called true loves kiss. As they grew up Stephen became so overcome with greed and the desire to be king that he betrayed Maleficent. Maleficent grew bitter with hate for King Stephen. At Aurora's christening Maleficent cursed her with a sleep like death in which she could only be awakened buy true loves kiss. Like in Sleeping Beauty Aurora grows up in the woods with three fairies, but has Maleficent as a protector. Maleficent learns to love again through Aurora and tries to remove the curse with no luck. In the end a nearby prince is not able to break the curse, but as Maleficent lays a sweet kiss on Aurora's head to say goodbye true love works its magic and the curse breaks. As they tried to escape Maleficent was weakened by iron and captured by the king. Aurora is able to find Maleficent's wings that were once taken from her. With her wings Maleficent is able to defeat the king and live happily under Aurora as the Queen of both kingdoms. In the end, both tales love for others is what stops the villain or saves the day. Sleeping Beauty ends with the curse being broken by Prince Charming giving Aurora true loves kiss. While in Maleficent, Aurora becomes a daughterly figure to Maleficent, teaching her to love again. In the end Maleficent shows compassion by waking Aurora up from the curse she cast. Aurora shows bravery by braking the glass prison that had been keeping Maleficent's wings hidden away for years. The morals in Maleficent teach a person that making one bad decision out of revenge doesn't make you a bad person and you never run out of love in your heart. Although Sleeping Beauty has an inspiring moral of love conquers all, Maleficent has the superior message. The film Maleficent brings a new perspective to the truth behind a villain who learns to love again, while Sleeping Beauty tells the classic tale of a damsel in distress saved by Prince Charming. The plot of Maleficent compared to Sleeping Beauty is superior in context and depth by providing a story full of tension and hope. Even though the original film has a moral of love, the story of Maleficent produces a stronger message of recovery and forgiveness. Both movies show that love will find it's way even in the most peculiar
