Robert Henri who’d lived from June 25, 1864 to July 12, 1929 (64 years) is known not only as an American painter, but as a teacher at the Art Students League of New York and an organizer of the group that goes by “The Eight”. “The Eight”, later to be termed the “Ashcan School” consisted of various artists including Arthur B. Davies, William Glackens, George Luks, Maurice Prendergast, Everett Shinn, John French Sloan, Robert Henri, and Ernest Lawson. While each artist had their own unique style, together they’d depict paintings of everyday life of the poor and urban neighborhoods.
