a conference is where speakers are given a chance to present their ideas to an audience. News and entertainment is a sharing of ideas that includes information about celebrity gossip, life styles, and quizzes. TED Talks’ speakers are typically very intellectual people who have a story to tell. In fact, Bill Gates, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Bill Clinton, and many Nobel Prize winners have spoken on a TED Talk. Through their stories, speakers address topics that are in the research and practice of technology, culture, and science. Buzz Feed’s content is provided by individuals who share posts directly to Buzz Feed. Once a post is submitted, Buzz Feed editors feature their personal favorite entries on the website. These articles may or may not be credible depending upon the author and the topic. Clearly, both sites have potential to be credible. Buzz Feed and TED Talk are directed towards two different audiences. Buzz Feed’s audience is typically teens and young adults. Josh Sternberg states in his article, “56% of BuzzFeed visitors are between 18 and 34 years old.” They emphasize pop culture. Where as, TED Talk’s audience is more general. Depending on the speaker and topic, the average age of viewers change. However, TED speakers must “inform and inspire, surprise and delight.”(ted.com) There for the audience is as diverse as the speakers.
Although TED Talks speakers are typically very intellectual people that propose thought provoking ideas, no topics are banned. In this sense, TED Talks might not always be credible depending upon the chosen topic. This fact may persuade people to believe that Buzz Feed is the more credible source. However, many research centers consider BuzzFeed “the least trusted source in media.” (No one trusts BuzzFeed) Fifty-seven percent of people who read Buzzfeed semi-regularly consider it mainly entertainment.
