Introduction
Inequality, prejudice and discrimination, values our society has adopted throughout time, particular values utilised throughout the era of the 1900s. A culture naturally dominated by the white race, arrogance gained through the particular colour of their skin, disconcerning the other coloured folks as irrelevant. Many whites believed it was a virtue or a privilege ....And others sought their skin no barrier between their morals, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world”.
Good morning Miss Pasley and fellow classmates, during my speech I will highlight the topic in-justice and justice in relation with the chosen quote. In doing this I have analysed two controversial texts which depict an era of discrimination and prejudice, through this... particular characters demonstrate the values that that define their personality as a independent stand on their corrupt society , ultimately resembling the quote discussed. The texts are to kill a mockingbird and one of the infamous speech’s “You can hate the roots of a tree” spoken by the influential figure Malcolm X.
Body
To kill a mockingbird was set in the year 1936 written by the influential Harper Lee. The book is written from the perspective of a nine year old girl named Scout who lives with her father and brother Jem. Depicting her town with no perception of discrimination basically colour-blind concerning peoples race, the book highlights the morals of Scouts father Atticus, a lawyer who defends a “Negro” male in the disgust of his town. This action demonstrates his outlook and beliefs on his current society acting in a way that forms his true personality to the audience.
The book defines Atticus as good and Mr Boo Radley as bad, but personally the two possess the same qualities that help shape their way of life, differentiating from the normal to create a difference in their town. Atticus
