Martin Luther king, a black minister from Georgia, was a not violent protester and oganizer. he proves that by this, "We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline." This piece of syntax showed that king
wanted to run a campaign that didn't involve black people getting violent. Compared to Malcolm X who had a more aggressive approach, "The philosophy of black nationalism only means that we will have to carry on a program, a political program, of re-education to open our peoples eyes; make us become more politically conscious." This strong piece of logos showed how Malcolm wanted change rather than protest.. "The Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny." This detail in the speech showed that king wanted a universal racial crowd of all races to help support his campaign and cause. Whereas Malcolm wanted to completely separate from white people shown here, "The economic philosophy of black nationalism only means that we should own and operate and control the economy of our community." This detail shows the intentions of Malcolm and his socialist philosophy in dealing in a segregated society. It just goes down to show that peace and togetherness gets you support and helps chance a nation.
Malcolm X, founder of the black panthers, was willing to do whatever means necessary to get black rights. It is proved here, "A revolution is bloody. but America is in a unique position. She is the only country that can be involved in a blood-less revolution." This detail showed that X was for a revolution if necessary but wanted reform in the political system.Whereas King didn't threaten the system, "We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence." His use of logos in this detail showed how he used civil disobedience to win his campaign. "The economic philosophy of black nationalism means that we should own and operate and control the economy of our community." X wanted to completely separate black and white's from each other so that they would improve the living of the black community. This is different from king because he wanted universal togetherness, :The marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the Negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny has tied up with our destiny." This strong piece of logos used with diction gets MLk's point across that Togetherness will win the war against segregation. while this is alienation of white people. While he is not into black and white relationship, he still caused and set up change for the black communities.
Though out these two speeches it is evident that Dr. King And Malcolm X have to different philosophies of engagement, but have the same common goal. while Dr. King wanted to use civil disobedience and universal togetherness to solve the segregation issue. Malcolm X supported separation from white people and the threat of black people to start revolutionizing. Their different methods of engagement proved them to be a good cause in ending black segregation. Ultimately becoming the symbol of black freedom.
