The disease I chose was compartment syndrome because it’s very rare, fewer than 20,000 US cases per year. Compartment syndrome is when a very dangerous and very painful condition cause from pressure builds up from internal bleeding or swelling of the tissues, the pressure decreases blood flow, depriving muscles and nerves of needed nourishment. The cause of this disease is often causes by injury, such as a fracture, that causes bleeding in a muscle which then causes increased pressure in the muscle. Some more causes of this disease are Crush injuries, burns, overly tight bandaging and blood clots. Some risk factors of compartment syndrome are age. Although many people of any age can develop this, the condition is most common on athletes under 30. Others risk factors include swimming, playing tennis, and running. Some signs of this includes worsening aching or cramping in the affected muscle (buttock, thigh, or lower leg). The Diagnosis for compartment syndrome depends on the type of injury the patient has. When the patient describes the symptoms to the doctor & get seen for a physical exam then the doctor will be able to diagnosis if the patient has compartment syndrome or not.
