Compass 2 Individual Differences
As we all know, it is not easy to work with people who you rarely know, and it is hard to build trust with them. There are often conflicts in a team, because everyone has different or opposite ideas, and sometimes we will forget to think carefully from other people's perspective.

My team in Compass II does not have any conflict through the whole semester, and we build trust in our team by communicating with each other frequently. I think the main reasons are our personality types are all guardians based on results from Keirsey Temperament, and we are more like friends rather than only teammates.

In order to be an effective team you must accomplish your set goals. To achieve this task a team must first discover and overcome the five dysfunctions of a team. According to Lencioni (2005), “Dysfunction #1 Is the Absence of Trust: Members of great teams trust one another on fundamental, emotional level, and they are comfortable being vulnerable with each other about their weaknesses, mistakes, fears, and behaviors. Dysfunction #2 is Fear of Conflict: Teams that trust one another are not afraid to engage in passionate dialogue around issues and discussions that are key to the organization’s success. Dysfunction #3 is the Lack of Commitment: Teams the engage in unfiltered conflict are able to achieve genuine by-in around important decisions, even when various members of the team initially disagree. Dysfunction #4 is Avoidance of Accountability: Teams that commit to decisions and standards of performance do not hesitate to hold one another accountable for adhering to those decisions and standards. Dysfunction #5 Inattention to Results: Teams that trust one another, engage in conflict, commit to decisions, and hold one another accountable are very likely to set aside their individual needs and agendas and focus almost exclusively on what is best for the team.”…

Wether it's a means of self expression or a key factor in revealing public unrest, peaceful protest is a vital part of a free society as its freedom asserts that anyone can express themselves, even when it's unpopular. We can look at cases like Colin Kaepernick where a simple pledge of allegiance was challenged because of it's "Racially Powered Patriotism" as he believes that racial tensions are of an institutional quality. Regardless of how you feel about his views, his contribution of opinion peacefully is a constitutional right that offers a certain insight into society at large. Another great example of unearthing public unrest is the protests that have been occurring outside of Trump tower and the president elect's home until his upcoming…

Dealing with conflict is always a challenging situation, which requires team members to be integrated into a single, organized unit (Bolger, 2003). Conflict among teams is bound to occur no matter how much one tries to avoid it. While resolving all conflicts is not possible, these conflicts can be dealt with using the correct methodology. To address team conflict there are five methods: Accommodate, Compromise, Enforce, Explore, and Postpone (Bolger, 2003).…

Being able to accomplish a task with a team can be both rewarding and challenging. Learning how to effectively work with a group of people from diverse backgrounds can ultimately be draining. First and foremost there has to be an understanding that everyone is not the same, personalities are different, attitudes are different, work habits are not the same, and definitely learning styles are different. Becoming more sensitive with other team members actions or behaviors is a must. This will help to guide the team as a whole in developing different work strategies to reach the success of the team.…

When working in teams I have found that team members have to earn trust from one another. It helps that everyone in the group has the same goal and in the end wants to achieve the same things. Trust is built when everyone is engaged and there is plenty of communication and involvement from each team member. There has to be a lot of give and take. Trust is built starting from small assignments and each individual doing their part. Trust can easy be lost right away if someone in the group is not participating to achieve the end goal. It is important to keep trust among team members by staying involved, communicating, and working together. The weight of the team projects must be evenly dispersed throughout team members. If one team member is going more than others, trust can be lost. Trust is very complex and has multiple layers. Although trust is a major factor in interpersonal relationships, there has been relatively little research done on the topic. Trust emerges and changes in situations that are difficult to observe and study, such as in “strain test” situations (Holmes, 1981). Strain test situations are when on individual’s outcomes is dependent on his or her partner, but the actions that would promote the individual’s own interests differ than what would benefit the partner. I think this goes back to the give and take scenario and doing what is best for the group, not just one individual.…

Due to trust's fragility, a breaking of trust can come do to a number of seemingly insignificant circumstances. Such circumstances include a member coming late to a meeting, not being prepared, presenting illogical and not well thought-out ideas, inconsistency in behavior, holding back opinions, etc. In order to avoid such circumstances, team members must have a clear vision of their goal and have a certain degree of zeal concerning the purpose of their task. To create these two ideals, it is suggested that the first activity a group collaborates to achieve is a meeting in which all team members contribute suggestions to come up with a clear, relevant task. Furthermore, establishing mutual and interesting grounds for completing the task at hand will hopefully promote such zeal. If these two ingredients exist, then the other aspects of trust should fall into place. Members should be eager to attend meetings, contribute ideas and prepare delegated assignments.…
